The Bioarchaeology, as a source of information that contributes to our conception of human societies of the past, has experienced a particular development in Latin America during recent decades, guided by both theoretical and methodological implementation of international methods as well as the interests in learning different aspects of pre-Columbian societies and the pulse of the local scientific and social questions. The genesis of this book came from bringing together a set of contributions that show the variety of bioarchaeological approaches currently discussed in our continent. The goal is to provide an overview of the state of discipline in Latin America. The chapters cover from case studies to regional synthesis and results of long-term project. As in any work of this nature, it is impossible to cover all the bioarchaeological ongoing investigations, many of them of great scientific value. However, this volume compiles some of the studies in the region and shows part of the broad methodological and conceptual development achieved.
