This meeting was an exciting new eddition to PPA´s regular schedule -the first Paleopathology Association Meeting in South America (PAMinSA), in the beatiful city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 27-29 July. It was co-sponsored by the Escola Nacional de Saúde Publica (National School of Public Health) at the Fundacao Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ), the largest biomedical research institution in Latin America. Two short courses, one on diagnosis of disease in dry bone (held at the Museu Nacional) and another on paleoparasitology (on the campus of FIOCRUZ) preceded the meeting, and there was exhibitions and excursions planned as well, including trips to nearby National Parks and the Lagoa Santa Archaeological site. This was just the first of a new series of PPA meetings in venue beyond North America and Europe!
